Insuring yourself not only covers you in the event of something going wrong, but gives you the reassurance to fully enjoy your retirement in Malta.
Health and medical insurance
In Malta, you can choose between making use of the health services provided by the government or else resorting to private practices and hospitals.
State health insurance
EU nationals in Malta can benefit from the free public health service. Ensure that you have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), which has replaced the old E111, for access to these services.
For more information contact the appropriate department at the Ministry of Health at the following address:

Private health insurance
If you subscribe to a private health insurance scheme, you will be refunded for the expenses of a private clinic or hospital or a visit to a specialist or doctor in the private sector. The service in the private sector is quicker and, in the case of non-urgent visits or operations, you can avoid long queues and sometimes months of waiting on a waiting list. There are many private insurance companies, so choosing your best option when in Malta will not be a problem.
