The variety of locations Italy has to offer is perhaps the country's most persuasive siren song.

Ranging from the idyllic beaches of the Italian Riviera to the rugged coastlines of the islands of Sardinia and Sicily, from bucolic villages amid the snow-capped Alps to the rolling vineyard-covered hills of Umbria and Tuscany, the landscape is ever-changing.

The country offers the bustling and cosmopolitan urban centres of Milan, Florence, Rome and Naples to the picturesque canals that weave their way between Venice's timeless façades.

But the same variety that draws visitors can represent their problems. Different regions have different attitudes and traditions regarding outsiders, price levels fluctuate dramatically depending on the region, and different banks often use homespun criteria to determine credit worthiness.
