Among the many attractions of retiring to the Republic of Cyprus is the fact that around 90 per cent of Greek Cypriots speak good English. If you're thinking of moving to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), it's wise to learn some Turkish. English is fairly widely spoken and understood in the main tourist areas, but outside of these, few Turkish Cypriots speak English.
Staying in touch with your family and friends from Cyprus is relatively easy, especially if you choose to live in or near one of the main towns. Telephone lines, mobile phones and internet access are all available on the island although in more remote areas access may be more difficult and services will take longer to install.
In the TRNC communications are not as efficient and services more limited, although landlines, mobile phones and internet services are all available.
